About Our Youth Development Agency Founder
JAMES GREAR, FOUNDER & CEO
James Grear is a second-generation foster parent. Grear's mother, the late Ms. Lauretta Grear, was a foster care provider for many years and was noted as the most dedicated foster mom of her time. When Ms. Grear became ill and was no longer able to provide care, Hennepin County Social Services asked James to become licensed due to attachments developed with the youth previously in his mom's care. Now, with more than 30 years of solid experience as a Treatment Foster Care Provider, James is a proud father of one biological son and eight adopted sons, and he has successfully raised fourteen amazing young men. In 2004, Ebony Magazine named him "Father of the Year", and titled his home "The Miracle Home", with a full-page article spread to support the titles. Grear's success has been stabilizing difficult-to-place youth, of which some had previously disrupted from up to as many as 40 foster homes. This success is primarily due to his ability to create a family environment with structure and to nurture foster children as a single father.
Grear created Thrive Youth Services LLC as the answer to his longtime dream of providing higher-quality services for higher-level-behavioral and at-risk youth.
